Recruiting, explained: what CJ Rosser's Louisville visit means

Louisville is in the race for one of the best high school players in the country.

The news

CJ Rosser, a five-star power forward at Southeastern Prep in Orlando and one of the top prospects in the class of 2027 (No. 1 per On3, No. 2 per 247Sports), cut his list to seven schools on Sept. 10: Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, NC State, North Carolina, and USC.

247Sports first reported that Louisville will host Rosser for an official visit this fall. Other outlets have the date as Oct. 22, which would make Louisville one of the last stops on his schedule.

What an official visit actually is

An official visit is a trip the school pays for: travel, lodging, meals, and time with coaches, players, and academic staff. Top recruits save them for the programs they're seriously considering, so an official visit is one of the clearest signals in any recruitment.

Why this one matters

• Late visits carry weight. Going near the end of the schedule gives Pat Kelsey's staff one of the last words before a decision.
• Kentucky is on the list, too. Recruiting battles with UK carry a little extra weight around here.
• It's a statement about the program. Making the final seven for a player at this level shows where Louisville basketball stands again.
